Markdown to Excel converts a Markdown pipe table into a downloadable .xlsx spreadsheet. Use it when a table from ChatGPT, GitHub, a README, a docs page, or a Markdown note needs to go back into Excel for sorting, filtering, review, or analysis. The current browser workflow extracts a standard Markdown table, previews the rows, and writes one Excel worksheet. It is designed for table data, not full Markdown documents, styled workbooks, formulas, charts, or multiple-table exports.
To convert Markdown to Excel, paste Markdown that contains a pipe table or upload a .md file. The converter looks for a valid Markdown table separator row, extracts the table rows, shows a spreadsheet-style preview, and lets you download an .xlsx file. This Markdown to Excel path is intentionally narrow: it converts table data. Paragraphs, headings, lists, and other non-table Markdown are ignored for the spreadsheet export.
A Markdown table is readable in docs, but Excel is better when you need sorting, filtering, calculations, or a handoff to an operations teammate. Markdown to Excel writes the extracted rows into an .xlsx workbook with one worksheet named Markdown. The cells are plain values. The tool does not recreate Markdown bold, links, code spans, alignment markers, or formulas as Excel formatting.
AI tools often answer with Markdown tables because they are easy to read in chat. When that table needs to become a spreadsheet, Markdown to Excel gives you a short path: paste the answer, check the parsed grid, and download .xlsx. Review the rows before using the file for decisions. The converter does not validate numbers, infer types, clean hallucinated data, or check whether the AI output is correct.
The downloaded .xlsx file can be opened by Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, Numbers, and other spreadsheet tools that accept modern workbook files. If your final target is Google Sheets, download the file and import or upload it there. This page does not connect to a Google account, create a Sheet in Drive, or push data directly into Google Sheets.
Use Markdown to Excel when you want an .xlsx workbook that opens directly in spreadsheet apps. Use Markdown to CSV when you need plain comma-separated text for databases, scripts, data tools, or lightweight exports. Both tools use the same table parsing foundation, but the output format changes the handoff. For a styled workbook, formulas, or multiple sheets, manual cleanup is still required after export.
The safe current path is one standard Markdown table. If a document contains multiple tables, convert the table you need first and verify the preview before downloading. Inline Markdown inside a cell is treated as text, not rich spreadsheet formatting. Alignment markers are skipped, and merged cells are not created. This keeps Markdown to Excel predictable for simple table movement instead of pretending to be a full document importer.
